Event Description
Africacrypt 2024 concludes with a renewed vision of cryptography in Africa. Friday, 12 July, marked the end of three day international conference on cryptology, dubbed Africacrypt 2024. Speaking at the closing ceremony, the deputy vice chancellor of the University of Bamenda, Pr Suh Cheo, representing the Vice Chancellor stated that, "The University of Bamenda recently took the bold step, in collaboration with colleagues, foreign institutions, the ANTIC and the support of Ministere de l'Enseignement Supérieur,Cap sur le Numérique Universitaire established a Centre for Cybersecurity and Mathematical Cryptology". "It is hoped that we train the work-forve of the future,enrich the local scene and have local content in this domain that has a place in the financial market and which contributes to various aspects of life" he added.
Over the past week, researchers, practitioners, and industry leaders from across Africa and around the world converged to share their groundbreaking work, exchange ideas, and forge new collaborations.
Conference highlights
Keynote address by Pr Emmanuel Fouotsa, the program Coordinator of the Centre for Cybersecurity and Mathematical Cryptology at the University of Bamenda, who provided a captivating overview of the current state and future prospects of cryptography in Africa. Innovative research presentations covering a wide range of topics, include post-quantum cryptography, blockchain security and privacy-preserving protocols. Hands-on workshops and tutorials led by industry experts, equipping attendees with the latest tools and techniques for implementing and deploying cryptography solutions. Throught-provoking panel discussions on the challenges and opportunities facing the African cryptography landscape, with a focus on fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing. Networking events and social activities that facilitated the building of valuable connections within the cryptography community.
