Event Description

The 11th of December 2024, students of the Centre for Cybersecurity and Mathematical Cryptology had the privilege of attending an enlightening presentation by Dr. Giddeon Angafor, Associate Lecturer in Cyber Security at the University of Winchester. Coordinated by our dedicated program coordinator, Dr. Emmanuel FOUOTSA, this session delved into "The 3 Pillars of Cybersecurity" with a particular focus on security tooling.
As the Security Operations Manager at risual Limited (a Node4 Company), Dr. Angafor brought invaluable industry insights, especially regarding the crucial role of the "Human" pillar in cybersecurity. He emphasized that humans are often the most vulnerable point of entry for cyber attacks, underscoring the necessity of robust security awareness training, compliance, and clear company policies. Collaboration within teams was highlighted as an essential practice to enhance security postures.
Additionally, the session explored various technological tools, particularly in the realm of Open Source Intelligence (OSINT). These tools are pivotal for reconnaissance, enabling us to gather critical information and bolster our defenses.
Overall, Dr. Angafor’s presentation was a profound reminder of the multifaceted nature of cybersecurity, where technology, processes, and human factors all play integral roles.
