Cyber Day 2025: A Resounding Call for a Cyber-Secure Africa
On November 7, the University of Bamenda’s Center for Cybersecurity and Mathematical Cryptology hosted Cyber Day 2025 under the theme: “Building a Cyber-Secure Africa: Awareness, Ethics, and the Power of the People.”
This landmark event brought together over 120 students from across the university—including non-STEM disciplines—to explore the human side of cybersecurity in an increasingly digital Africa.
Highlights from the Day
Fair and Ethical Use of AI in Learning and Research, a thought-provoking session led by Njinge Joseph Njinko, challenged students to reflect on the responsible use of AI in academia.
Africa’s Tech Future and the Role We Must Play by Fepou Orlie inspired participants to see themselves as architects of Africa’s digital destiny.
The Human Side of Cybersecurity Lontsi Kevine, Demanu Ericka, and Tato Romarique unpacked how human behavior—often overlooked—can be both a vulnerability and a strength in cyber defense.
The Human Hack: Social Engineering in Everyday Life A gripping session on how emotional manipulation fuels cybercrime, and how awareness can be our first line of defense.
User Profiling and the Dark Side of Generative AI by Ngatchou Dimitri exposed the psychological risks of AI-driven profiling and the ethical dilemmas it presents.
Ethical Hacking by Nsalar Lydiana demonstrated how hacking, when guided by ethics, can be a powerful tool for digital justice.
Impact and Outreach
Cyber Day 2025 was more than a conference—it was a movement. It sparked critical conversations across faculties, empowered students with practical knowledge, and emphasized that cybersecurity is not just a technical issue; it’s a human one.
From AI ethics to scam awareness, participants left with a deeper understanding of their role in shaping a safer, more resilient Digital Africa.
We extend heartfelt thanks to our Esteemed Professor Fouotsa Emmanuel, the Director of the Centre for Cybersecurity and Mathematical Cryptology, the speakers, facilitators, and every student who showed up with curiosity and courage to find out, indeed, what role is left for them to play. Your engagement made this event a success—and a sign of greater things to come.
Let’s keep the momentum going. Cybersecurity starts with awareness. It grows with ethics. And it thrives when people, like you and I- let us take the lead..
